Pre-Reunion Round-Up (and Final Post!)

Hi folks, it's been quite awhile since I posted here, so there are a ton of class-related stories to recap. Now that much of the class is able to catch up on links of interest via Facebook, Twitter, and so on, and with our next reunion imminent, it's time to retire this blog. But first, one final huge batch of recent noteworthy links featuring classmates Rob Hyland, John D'Agostino, Sam Sommers, Noah Harlan, Byron Wetzel, Matt McGough, Kevin Lee, Chase Coleman, Robbi Behr, Matt Swanson, Fiona Maazel, Hussain Aga Khan and David Turner:

Many of us watched the Bengals-Texans wild card playoff game in January. But how many of us knew that Rob Hyland produced the telecast?

While his interview with Bill O'Reilly occurred several years ago, John D'Agostino's thoughts on oil have been revisited thanks to current discussions about gas prices. Check out John at 2:08 of the first video contained in this link.

Sam Sommers' book Situations Matter was published in December, and has received strong reviews. Buy your own copy today!

Check out the trailer for Return, a movie directed by Eph professor Liza Johnson, produced by Noah Harlan, and starring Michael Shannon, who is represented by Byron Wetzel (Eph synergy at work!).

This video of Matt McGough discussing his time as a Yankees bat boy was featured on the Williams Sports Information page.

Another great video, Kevin Lee's video essay on the "Spielberg Face," was featured on the New York Times website.

These two articles on Chase Coleman delve into his incredibly successful investment strategy.

This feature on Matt Swanson and Robbi Behr describes their latest creative endeavor, a build-your-own-President flip book. Speaking of Robbi, check out her drawing on the cover on the September edition of the Williams Alumni Review.

Congratulations to Fiona Maazel, who sold her second book, Woke Up Lonely, a "sweeping commentary on loneliness in America featuring a cult leader, his ex-wife, and the four people he accidentally takes hostage," which will be published next Spring.

You can find the transcript of a speech delivered by Hussain Aga Khan regarding deforestation in Kenya here.

Finally, be sure to read David Turner's satirical take on his role in the recent Broadway shot, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. You can catch several glimpses of David in this brief highlight reel from the show. David was also featured in a more serious interview in Playbill.

Hope to see everyone in June at reunion!

Links from Spring and Summer

Reunion is, incredibly, less than ten months away! Check out some of the lengthy batch of 97ers in the news since our last update:

Jesse Brackenbury makes his first appearance on the blog courtesy of his work as Director of Business Operations at Boston's Greenway. Watch Jesse's update on the Greenway food vending operation here.

Be sure to watch this great video produced by Shayla Harris and featured on the NYTimes website.

David Turner's latest Broadway role sounds like a choice one: in A Clear Day You Can See Forever, he plays a gay florist who seeks out a psychiatrist to quit smoking — and who becomes, under hypnosis, a possible former self, a 1940s jazz singer named Melinda Wells.

Despite a turbulent market, Chase Coleman's hedge fund has been performing extraordinarily well.

Mike Norton and Sam Sommers discuss perceptions of bias in the New York Times.

Finally, enjoy this old-school football video featuring interviews with Brian Higgins, Mark Kossick and Eric Kelly, big plays by various 97ers, and the "catch of a lifetime" by Kossick during the legendary 1996 upset of an undefeated Amherst juggernaut.

Update: just missed this great Forbes article highlighting Dahna Goldstein's philanthropic start-up:

David Turner received rave reviews for his role in Arcadia. You can see Dave at the 1:41 point of this clip, during which the reviewer discussed his performance.

Byron Wetzel is noted as the manager for Michael Shannon, who will play Zod (!) in the Superman reboot

Adrienne Lu is featured on the Williams alumni office's new How'd You Get There? page.

Finally, this is from a few months back, but Eiko Maruko Siniawer was chosen to welcome President Falk, on behalf of the faculty, to Williams last fall. You can see Eiko's speech at 9:30 of this video.
